In 1998, Strawn's Atlanta police department superiors brought him up on 11 counts of bringing discredit on himself as a police officer. He opted to retire the day before he was to lose his job. He had been suspended from the force in 1992 when a drinking problem led him to miss work. He was also suspended by the Atalta police in 1996 due to allegations brought by his step-daughter.
In 1996, Strawn's 12-year old step-daughter accused him of molesting her, but later recanted her testimony so no charges were filed. While in police custody, Strawn admitted to sexually assaulting his niece on two separate occasions when she was 12 or 13 years old. [Labi, Nadya. "Legal Affairs".
