Sikhism in Germany

German Sikhs are a religious minority in Germany. Many German Sikhs have their roots in Afghanistan. They escaped Afghanistan due to fear of the persecution of the Sikhs by the Taliban regime. Reports are scarce about the population as some claim 12,000 Sikhs in Germany while another reports 15,000 [ [http://www.sikhnet.com/s/SikhGermanLeaders Sikhs in Germany Seek Meeting with German Leaders on Turban Issue] ] and yet another 50,000. Germany had the second highest Sikh population in Europe after United Kingdom. But since a few years mass immigration of Sikhs to Italy has resulted into a 70,000 strong Italian Sikh community, pushing the strong German Sikh community to the third place.
