Southend West is a parliamentary constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

Because four members of the Guinness family have held the seat (or its predecessor, Southend) it is often dubbed in the media "Guinness-on-Sea". [ [http://www.guardian.co.uk/obituaries/story/0,,2002349,00.html Obituary: Lord Kelvedon | Obituaries | Guardian Unlimited ] ]

Boundaries

It comprises a small part of the West of Southend-on-Sea, and includes Leigh-on-Sea and Westcliff-on-Sea. It is bounded to the North and East by Rochford and Southend East, to the North by Rayleigh, to the West by Castle Point, and to the South by the Thames estuary.
