Foodland Hawaii

Foodland Hawaii

"Foodland" (Full name Foodland Super Market, Ltd.) is the name of a American supermarket chain, headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii. Foodland operates 29 stores throughout the state of Hawaii under the "Foodland" and "Sack 'N Save" names. "Food, Family & Friends" is their current slogan.

History

The chain traces its roots back to 1948 when it opened its first store in Honolulu's Market City. The founder of the chain, Maurice J. "Sully" Sullivan came from Ireland to Hawaii and opened a new supermarket, called Foodland. The current chairman and CEO of Foodland Super Market is Jenai S. Wall. [ [http://www.foodland.com/our_company/message_from_jenai.php Welcome to Foodland.com ] ]

The "FoodLand" name

"FoodLand" is also the name of at least three regional supermarket chains in the United States, the other two being in West Virginia, where a different but unrelated FoodLand has stores there, while an undetermined number of stores located particularly in Alabama, share the same logo as the West Virginia-based chain but appear to be otherwise separate.

The name "Foodland," being fairly generic in nature and apparently not a registered trademark, appears as all or part of the name of countless unaffiliated grocery stores throughout the country, as well as in Australia, Canada, Iceland and Thailand [http://www.foodland.co.th/contactus.htm|]
