Following a review by the
Boundary Commission for England , at the next general election the boundaries of the Burton constituency will be amended slightly, with the Needwood ward (containing the village ofBarton-under-Needwood ) being transferred to the Lichfield constituency.History
The constituency was formed in 1885. From 1950 until 1997, the seat was held by the Conservative Party; the
brewing industry of Burton upon Trent traditionally being a strong supporter of the Conservatives. However, like many traditionally Conservative seats, it fell to the Labour Party during their landslide victory at the 1997 general election. Labour'sJanet Dean has held the seat since then.Members of Parliament
