- Goals Club
A goals club is a generic name for an
alliance or two or more people who band together to promote goals that they set using some kind of planning and support structure. They come in a myriad of forms and they may last for any period of time. The distinction they have from clubs in general is that their purpose is specifically to provide synergy to accomplish tasks. These tasks may have been resistant to action previously, be renewals of tasks already accomplished, or be new ideas.Goals clubs make use of the psychological phenomenon called "
social facilitation ," which was described in time-motion studies of factory labor in the early 1900s. People in groups, whether with a common or separate purposes, tend to work more effectively. The presence of other people increases self-awareness and the drive to perform creditably.Rather than waiting for club business to get around to action, goals clubs stress plans for effective action as the primary purpose, with the objects of this action being the choice of individual members. Members may work on professional, personal or creative goals.
