Globe Road railway station

Globe Road railway station

Globe Road railway station was a railway station in Stepney, East London on the main line into Liverpool Street. It was opened by the Great Eastern Railway in 1884.

Due to the competition from Stepney Green tube station on the District Line and wartime constraints the station was shut in 1916 along with many inner London stations on main lines. It was never re-opened. Two other nearby stations on the line Bishopsgate (low level) and Coborn Road were also shut and today trains run direct from Liverpool Street station to Stratford station without stopping.

It was situated on Globe Road, from which it took its name. Today, very few remnants of the old station remain. [ [http://www.abandonedstations.org.uk/ London's Abandoned Tube Stations ] ]
