Dobbs was born in
Albany, Texas and graduated from Colorado High School inColorado City, Texas .After graduation he worked the
rodeo circuit as a tack man and livestock handler, and had begun competing in thebronc riding andbull riding events. In 1962, at a rodeo inBuffalo, Minnesota , he was offered a stint as the barrel man for the rodeo'sclown team when the main barrel man failed to show up.For more than three decades Dobbs entertained rodeo crowds in the
United States ,Canada , and evenAustralia . In addition to savingcowboy s in the ring, Dobbs entertained rodeo crowds between events with his famous clowning acts, often involving trained animals and a (quite explosive)Ford Model T .Dobbs retired from professional rodeo in 1998 and the following year began serving as a Justice of the Peace for Howard County. He resides in Coahoma and still performs annually at the "World's Original
Kindergarten Rodeo" held by the town's elementary school. In 2004 he was inducted into theTexas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame .Honors
