tudent Life
Seattle Girls' School is dedicated to fostering academic excellence, strong self-esteem, and a life-long love of learning in girls. With its emphasis on science, math, and technology, the school will challenge girls to think critically and seek creative solutions to problems in an atmosphere that promotes respect for all, collaboration, and hands-on learning. We are committed to creating a diverse learning environment and celebrating the accomplishments of women within the school, the greater community, and the world. Our signature approach is to nurture the talents of each student through individualized learning plans combined with curricula specifically designed for the ways girls learn best.
Through a variety of programs before, during and after school, girls will find not only ample outlets for their energy and creativity, but also opportunities to stretch themselves both academically and personally. At Seattle Girls' School, a faculty of passionate, dedicated and skilled individuals will help students develop the communications skills, empathy, and strength of voice to form questions, shape ideas, speak out, and take responsibility for decision making. SGS has been created out of a desire to enable top quality faculty to work with young girls in an environment uniquely geared to meeting their academic, social, interpersonal and motivational needs.
At SGS, girls will have their interests developed, their ideas tested, their hearts opened, their confidence ignited, and their idealism respected. [ [http://www.seattlegirlsschool.org/about/ Seattle Girls' School - About SGS ] ]
Academics
Girls at single sex schools flourish academically. Graduates of girls' schools are more motivated, more accomplished, and have higher aspirations than their peers at coeducational schools. Girls at single gender schools plan careers in math, science, and technology four times more often than their peers from coed schools. They will typically score 30% higher on SAT tests than the national average for girls.
Girls need their own middle school to nurture and empower them during this critical time. They need a learning environment specifically designed for the ways in which they learn best. In a school of their own, girls stay invested in themselves and their potential, and do not succumb to the messages and risks presented to them on a daily basis. In a school of their own, girls can grow whole and strong alongside others who are succeeding. Through programs in the arts, sports activities, and community service, girls will find at SGS opportunities to test leadership skills, build confidence, and expand their horizons.
