The constituency consists of a section of the metropolitan district of
South Tyneside . It includes the ancient monastery at Jarrow, and runs from theRiver Tyne at Jarrow to the North Sea coast at Souter Point. The constituency includes the settlements ofJarrow ,Boldon ,Hebburn , Fellgate,Cleadon , and Whitburn.Following boundary changes to be brought in at the next election, Whitburn is removed to neighbouring South Shields.
