John Cragg Farthing

John Cragg Farthing (b 13 December 1861 - 6 May 1947) was the Anglican Bishop of Montreal for 30 years during the first half of the 20th century [ [http://www.montreal.anglican.ca/z2bsp/bsp_past.htm List of Anglican Bishops of Montreal] ] . Born in Toronto he was educated at Caius College, Cambridge before embarking on an ecclesiastical career with a curacy at Woodstock, Ontario, swiftly followed by elevation to the incumbency within the same parish. Promotion followed rapidly and he was, successively, a Canon of St Paul’s Cathedral, London, Ontario , Dean of Ontario and finally Bishop of Montreal [ The Times, Tuesday, Sep 20, 1938; pg. 11; Issue 48104; col G Long serving Bishop of Montreal to retire] .
