Bolton North East is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It is a marginal seat between Labour and the Conservatives.

Boundaries

Bolton North East was created for the 1983 General Election from parts of the constituencies of Bolton West and the former Bolton East. A socially very mixed and highly marginal seat, it covers Bolton's town centre, and the districts in close proximity (Breightmet, Crompton, Halliwell, Tonge with the Haulgh) are Labour areas, whereas the outer suburbs (Astley Bridge, Bradshaw, Bromley Cross) are much more Conservative inclined.

Boundary review

Following their review of parliamentary representation in Greater Manchester, the Boundary Commission for England have recommended the continuation of three constituencies to represent the Bolton area. The electoral wards used in the creation of a modified Bolton North East are:

*Astley Bridge, Bradshaw, Breightmet, Bromley Cross, Crompton, Halliwell, and Tonge with the Haulgh
