Yoav Regional Council ( _he. מועצה אזורית יואב, "Mo'atza Ezorit Yoav") is a regional council in the South District of
Israel . It is located near the cities ofKiryat Gat ,Kiryat Malakhi andAshkelon . It was founded in 1952, it covers an area of 230,000 dunams, and its population is about 5,300.The council is named after
Yitzhak Dubnov , who was nicknamed "Yoav ", and who fell while defendingNegba in theIsraeli War of Independence .Operation Yoav andMetzudat Yoav , which is located in the council's area, are also named after him.The council contains two parts which are not contiguous geographically. The main part is bordered on the north by
Nahal Sorek Regional Council , on the west byBe'er Tuvia Regional Council andShafir Regional Council , on the south byLakhish Regional Council andKiryat Gat , and on the east byMatte Yehuda Regional Council . The western portion of the council, which includes the kibbutzimNegba andSde Yoav , is bordered on the north and east byShafir Regional Council , on the west byHof Ashkelon Regional Council , and on the west byLakhish Regional Council .Communities in the council
Today the council has 8
kibbutz im, 3moshav im, ayouth village , a communal settlement, and an Arab village. The mayor of the council is Rani Traynin fromBeit Nir . He was reelected in November 2007. The government offices are located at Re'em Junction.Kibbutzim
