He also played in the American Football League for the San Diego Chargers. Van Raaphorst played college football at Ohio State University and was drafted in the tenth round of the 1964 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He served as a color analyst on Chargers radio broadcasts in the 1970s.
