List of football (soccer) club nicknames in the Americas

This is a list of nicknames of football clubs in The Americas. For United States based teams, only those nicknames distinct from those used in the official club name, are listed, e.g. The Crew, for Columbus Crew.

Boca Juniors

Boca supporters are called the "Los Xeneizes". Immigration was strong on the start of the XX century at Buenos Aires. And 'La Boca' neighbourhood was one of the main targets for the travelers. As the nickname says, many of them were Italian. And the ones who founded Boca were from Genova. Boca supporters are also called 'bosteros' due to many chariots that used to ride on the neighbourhood and used to let a track of horse shit on the streets. Initially a way to depreciate Boca supporters, but now a proud way to Boca supporters to show their origin.

Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro

San Lorenzo de Almagro was founded in the honor of Lorenzo Massa, a former Argentinian priest. San Lorenzo supporters are known as "Los Cuervos" due to Father Massa's clothes and as "Los santos" due to the religious origin of the name.

River Plate

River supporters are known as ‘Los Millionarios”. It shows a time that River Plate was the richest club of Argentina and the team was also know as “La Máquina”. As argentinian soccer is widely known as a land of braves and River is not so ‘brave’ as the other Argentinian clubs, River supporters are also known as ‘Las gallinas’.

Newell's Old Boys

Newell's supporters are known as 'Los Leprosos'. The legend was created due to a hospital campaing to help leper epidemy in the start of XX century. Hospital board asked Newell's and Rosario Central to play a match to help the hospital to earn money to save leper ill people. Newell's accept the invite and Rosario don't. Due to this, Newell's supportes are called 'Los Leprosos' and Rosario supporters are called 'Los canallas'.
