Born in
Brampton, Ontario to Trinidadian parents, Hutchinson began his professional career in the 2002 summer season, playing briefly with theYork Region Shooters of theCanadian Professional Soccer League before signing with theToronto Lynx of the then A-League in mid-season, onJuly 26 , and playing in the teams final four games. In January 2003 he signed withÖsters IF , newly promoted to the SwedishAllsvenskan . Hutchinson scored six times for Öster during the 2003 season. With the club relegated out of the Allsvenskan, Hutchinson was granted a transfer and signed withHelsingborgs IF in January 2004.Expectations were high for him the first season in Helsingborg, but he failed to live up to them. In the 2005 season, however, he was consistently the team's best player, scoring six goals from a primarily defensive midfield position.
Atiba moved to Danish F.C. Copenhagen, where he played alongside Swedish international
Tobias Linderoth on the central midfield the first half year, but later he has been moved around on the midfield and as striker. ManagerStåle Solbakken told in an interview with the football paper "TIPS-bladet", that he saw Hutchinson too much offensive as central midfielder, and he will in the spring 2007 be used as wing. [Citation | last = Pyndt | first = Thomas | title = Kampen om midtbanen | newspaper = TIPS-bladet | pages = 14 | year = 2007 | date =2007-02-23 ]For Canada, Hutchinson has played more than 20 games and scored two goals - the first in a World Cup qualifying match against Honduras, on
September 10 ,2004 . He also played in the 2001 and2003 FIFA World Youth Championship s.In February 2007, Hutchinson was named CanadaSoccer.com Fan’s Choice winner. Hutchinson received more votes than any other player in the online voting portion conducted by fans. But in the end, it was not enough to win over
Dwayne De Rosario in the "Player of the year" award. On
June 21 ,2007 , Hutchison appeared to have scored a vital equalizer against the United States in a2007 Gold Cup semi-final. However, he was controversially ruled off-side, despite the ball last having been touched by an American defender.Honours
