Usinsk ( _ru. Усинск) is a town in the
Komi Republic ,Russia , situated km to mi|757 east of the republic's capital city ofSyktyvkar , and km to mi|100 north of the town of Pechora, on the northern bank of the Usa River, some km to mi|30 before its confluence with thePechora River . Population: 44,805 (2006 est.);fact|date=March 2008 ru-census|p02=45358|p89=47219Usinsk was founded in 1966 as a settlement at the newly discovered deposits of
petroleum in the north of the Komi Republic. Town status was granted to it in 1984. Usinsk is administratively directly under the republic. The town's area is km2 to mi2|30600.The town is the center for the production of oil and gas in the Komi Republic. Three quarters of all the oil produced in the republic comes from the fields in the territory around Usinsk. In 1980 the town was connected to the Pechora Railway by a 108 km long sidetrack.
