The constituency has always elected Labour MPs, although in their landslide defeat of 1983, the Conservatives were able to mount a strong challenge.The Alyn and Deeside Welsh Assembly constituency was created with the same boundaries in 1999.
Boundaries
This Cheshire/Wales boundary seat is part of the industrial hinterland on the outskirts of
Wrexham . It was formerly known as East Flintshire until the 1983 boundary review, which saw it renamed after the Alyn and Deeside district created in 1974. The main population areas in the current seat includeShotton ,Connah's Quay ,Buckley ,Hawarden andCaergwrle .Following their review of parliamentary representation in Wales, the Boundary Commission for Wales made only minor alterations to this constituency.
