This is a list of volumes and chapters of the "Rurouni Kenshin" manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The fictional setting takes place during the early Meiji period in Japan. The story is about a fictional assassin named Himura Kenshin who becomes a wanderer to protect the people from Japan.

"Rurouni Kenshin" was licensed for an English-language release in North America by Viz Media. Summary = During the Meiji 11, a peaceful wanderer called Himura Kenshin, formerly known as the nihongo|"Hitokiri Battōsai"|人斬り抜刀斎 ["Hitokiri" means "manslayer", however, "Battōsai" does not have a literal meaning. While "battō" is a reference to "battōjutsu", "sai" means "purify".] arrives in Tokyo. Soon he meets Kamiya Kaoru whose swordmanship school is in danger as a murderer from the city claims to be from that school. After investigating, Kenshin defeats the murderer but before he leaves Kaoru offers him to live in her dojo. During his stay in the dojo Kenshin rescues an orphan called Myōjin Yahiko and takes him to live and train in the dojo. A few days later, a fighter-for-hire Sagara Sanosuke, challenges Kenshin to fight after discovering his past. The volume ends with a one-shot by Watsuki called "Rurouni Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story".

Summary = The fight between Kenshin and Sanosuke continues resulting in the victory of the first. Sanosuke realizes that Kenshin is different from the Ishin Shishi that destroyed his group, the Sekihotai and he becomes one of his friends. Soon both are hired to protect an ex-Ishin Shishi from a hitokiri called Udo Jin-e. Jin-e encounters Kenshin and after seeing how weak he is compared to the Bakumatsu period, he decides to kill him. The next day Kaoru worried about the what would Kenshin do, she goes to talk with him but she ends kidnapped by Jin-e who wants returns to Kenshin the ability to kill. Full of anger, Kenshin defeats Jin-e but before killing him Kaoru shouts him not to become in a murderer again and Jin-e decides to kill himself. A few time later, Sanosuke and Kenshin knock a group of guards of a industrialist called Takeda Kanryū, that were pursuing Takani Megumi, a woman who has opium in her hand.

Summary = After defeating Takeda Kanryū's guards, Kenshin and Sanosuke discover that Kanryu is protected by the last members of the Oniwabanshū group. Since knowing this, Kenshin decides to be the guard of Megumi, but in the same day they are attacked by a member of the Oniwabanshū called Hyottoko. Sanosuke is able to defeat him with the help of Kenshin, but Megumi is attacked by the other member Beshimi. Yahiko protects her, receiving the attack but Megumi is able to heal him. She decides to escape since she created a few time ago stronger version of the opium, but Kenshin and Kaoru ask her to stay in the dojo. Feeling guilty about the deaths she caused, Megumi goes to the mansion of Kanryū in order to kill him but she ends kidnapped. Kenshin, Sanosuke and Yahiko decide to rescue her and they enter to the mansion. The volume ends with the second chapter of "Rurouni Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story".

Summary = As soon Kenshin, Yahiko and Sanosuke enter into the mansion, Kenshin encounters Han'nya while Sanosuke fights against Shikijō. They defeat them after discovering the secret of their abilities and find their leader Shinomori Aoshi. Kenshin fights against him in a hard fight ending defeating him but ending in a wounded state. Seeing that the Oniwabanshū were only using him to fight agaisnt strong soldiers, Kanryū betrays Aoshi and tries to kill him with a Gatling gun. The four soldiers of Aoshi, protect him the receiving the attacks but die. Kenshin is able to get to Kanryū and kncok him thanks to the distraction caused by the Oniwabanshū. As they find Megumi trting to kill herself, they stop her and tell her that the only way to pay the deaths she caused is by helping the others as a doctor. Before leaving the mansion, they find a shocked Shinomori Aoshi, to whom Kenshin promises another fight in the future to see if that can calm him.

Summary = Yahiko begins working in the Akabeko restaurant and meets Sanjo Tsubame, who is of samurai descent, and is forced to help her "master" Nagaoka Mikio in stealing from the restaurant. When finding out this, Yahiko encounters the bosses of Tsubame and defeats them after recognizing he wants to protect Tsubame. Some time later, during a practice in another dojo, a man called Isurugi Raijūta almost kills the teacher of the dojo forcing Kenshin to fight against him. Being impressed with his abilities, Raijūta asks Kenshin to join his dojo, which he rejects. During the same period, they also meet the student of Raijūta, Tsukayama Yūtarō, and after discovering he was never taught swordmanship they ask him to be a student of the "Kamiya Kasshin Ryū".

Summary = A few days after Yūtarō began training in the "Kamiya Kasshin Ryū", the group is attacked by Raijūta who wants to defeat Kenshin since he rejected joining to his dojo. Although Kenshin defeats using only his left hand, Raijūta breaks the right arm of Yūtarō with one of his techniques leaving him unable to practice the swordmanship. In order to heal Yūtarō, his father decides to go with him to Germany, but before doing that Yahiko attacks Yūtarō reminding him to return. As the time goes Sanosuke finds an old friend from the Sekihotai who wants to attack the Meiji Government. Seeing that this would not be what their captain wanted, Sanosuke stops him. The volume ends with a one-shot of Nobuhiro Watsuki called Crescent Moon in the Warring States.

Summary = Saitō Hajime, a former Shinsengumi member, appears in the "Kamiya Kasshin Ryū" dojo looking for Kenshin and leaves Sanosuke injured, who realizes he wants to fight against him. After discovering this, Kenshin receives a challenging letter from Saitō, and ends up fighting one of his partners only to confirm how strong is he. Kenshin easily defeats him and when he returns to the dojo he meets Saitō Hajime and both start fighting. During the fight, Kenshin is overpowered many times forcing him to recover his hitokiri personality. Before the last attack, both are interrupted by the ex-Ishin Shishi Ōkubo Toshimichi who requests Kenshin to go to Kyoto to kill the hitokiri Shishio Makoto, who plans to destroy the Meiji Government. One week later, Ōkubo is killed by a soldier of Shishio, resulting in the decision of Kenshin to go to Kyoto.
