GlaxoWellcome

GlaxoWellcome was a medicine wholeseller. It merged with SmithKline Beecham in 2001 to form GlaxoSmithKline.

1978 - Through the acquisition of Meyer Laboratories Inc, Glaxo's business in the US is started, to become Glaxo Inc from 1980. The broad-spectrum injectable antibiotic Zinacef (cefuroxime) is introduced by Glaxo.

1995 - Glaxo and Wellcome merge to form Glaxo Wellcome. Glaxo Wellcome acquires California-based Affymax, a leader in the field of combinatorial chemistry. The Queen opens Glaxo Wellcome's Medicines Research Centre at Stevenage in England. Valtrex (valaciclovir) is launched by Glaxo Wellcome as an anti-herpes successor to Zovirax (acyclovir).
