Samuel Woods is a fictional character on the ABC daytime drama "All My Children". He has been portrayed by Mario Van Peebles since January 29, 2008.

Character History

Samuel Woods is the son of legendary blues musician Melvin Woods (Melvin Van Peebles) and the father of teen musician Dre Woods. His late wife Melissa was an investment broker working in the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York. She died in the terrorist attack on the WTC on September 11, 2001. Currently, Samuel is the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and is campaigning for the United States Senate.

In 2007, mega-celebrity Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) purchased large amounts of Chandler Enterprises stock based upon her knowledge that her ex-husband, Adam Chandler, planned to reassume control of the company. As a result, Samuel had Erica arrested in February 2008, and prosecuted her for insider trading. However, he has grown quite fond of Erica, and rushed to her aid when he discovered that she was unjustly subjected to solitary confinement for several days.

Following Erica's early release from federal prison, Samuel began pursuing her romantically, much to the chagrin of Erica's ex-husband Jackson Montgomery. Despite the adverse effect that such a relationship could have on his senatorial campaign, Samuel insists on dating Erica openly.
