The Caracal F and its compact version Caracal C are 9mm handguns manufactured by United Arab Emirates-based Caracal International [ [http://www.caracal.ae/ welcome to CARACAL ] ] , they were unveiled at International Defence Exhibition, Idex 2007 in Abu Dhabi. The research and development team was led by an Austrian firearms designer Wilhelm Bubits who had designed the Steyr M pistol.

Development

Newly arrived on a competitive market, the Caracal pistol is the first pistol made in the United Arab Emirates. A certificate was issued by the Federal German Armed Forces Testing House WTD 91 in Meppen, Germany in May 2006 after the pistol successfully complied with the NATO D14 standard, the Federal Police Standard and the Federal Armed Forces Technical Purchasing requirements. These tests are the most stringent test protocols ever devised for a service firearm.

Caracal pistols have a low bore axis as seen on this picture when comparing with some of the most popular pistols available on the market. This design makes Caracal pistols more comfortable to shoot and allows faster aim recovery in rapid shooting sequence.

25,000 Caracal F pistols in 9 mm were ordered by various armies and security forces of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in 2007. The Caracal pistol is now the new service pistol of United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Jordan as of April, 2008.

The manufacturer offers this pistol in 9x19mm Parabellum, 9x21mm IMI, .357 SIG and .40 Smith & Wesson.
