"Pershing" is the second full length studio album from indie pop/rock band Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. It was released through Polyvinyl Records on April 8th, 2008. Background and Production

A pre-order edition of the album featured exclusive original artwork and three additional tracks. The first two are demo acoustic songs: an early draft of "The Beach Song", "I Didn't Mean it"; and "Stain", a full band cover of the Nirvana song. The album's name refers to John J. Pershing Middle School in Springfield, Missouri, which Philip Dickey attended, named for fellow Missourian and American General of the Armies during World War I, John J. Pershing.

The album is dedicated to Alex Bethurem, a Chicago area indie music fan who took his own life. [ [http://maroon.uchicago.edu/online_edition/article/9841 University of Chicago's Maroon Magazine article on Alex] ]

Track 10, HEERS, references the [http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=19864 Heers Building] , which is located in downtown Springfield and once housed a local department store but has been vacant for decades.

Reception

The album received a great deal of internet buzz, similar to "Broom" and tracks have been favorably reviewed and featured on numerous indie music blogs. [ [http://hypem.com/artist/someone+still+loves+you++boris+yeltsin/ SSLYBY at the Hypemachine] ]

Recorded in Springfield, MO and Wilmington, N.C. in 2007, the album's production is more refined than the lo-fi "Broom", but retains many key qualities such as doubled vocals, moving bass lines, and sparkly clean guitar lines played by both electric and acoustic guitars. One review describes it as "Quirky chord changes amid massive hooks and addictive melodies." [ [http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013PS490 Amazon] ]
