The Lake Suburban Conference was formed following the demise of the Calumet Conference. Seven schools from the Calumet Conference - Calumet, Crown Point, Griffith, Highland, Lake Central, Lowell, and Merrillville - along with previously independent Munster formed the Lake Suburban Conference. The only change to membership would be the exit of Merrillville in 1975 to join the
Duneland Athletic Conference . Growth in Lake County's southland greatly increased the enrollment at Lake Central and Crown Point over time and led to their push to exit the conference. When the Lake Suburban Conference split Crown Point joined the Duneland; Lake Central operated as an independent for a decade until joining Crown Point in the Duneland in 2003. Lowell, the school located in the farthest south, joined the widespread Northwest Hoosier Conference. The remaining Lake Suburban refugees joined with the schools located within the city of Hammond to form the Lake 10 Conference.Boys State Champions
