Socialist Alliance Democracy Platform

Socialist Alliance Democracy Platform

The Socialist Alliance Democracy Platform was a faction of the Socialist Alliance (SA), a left-wing political group of England and Wales which existed between 1999 and 2005.

It formed as a political platform within the SA in order to counter what it perceived as the domination of the SA by the Socialist Workers Party as well as in response to the seeming marginalisation of the Alliance in favour of Respect. The Platform later opposed the 2005 dissolution of the SA.

The group had the support of the Alliance for Workers' Liberty (AWL), Alliance for Green Socialism, International Socialist League and the Red Party. It stood candidates in the 2004 local elections as "Democratic Socialist Alliance - People Before Profit" and later joined the Socialist Green Unity Coalition. It also stood candidates in the 2005 general election.

After the dissolution of the SA the platform split with one group of its members forming the Socialist Alliance (Provisional). Another group declared its intention to continue with the platform and adopted the name Democratic Socialist Alliance for use in its public political work.

The AWL is not involved in either formation but supports the Socialist Alliance (Provisional).
