- Gardens at Heather Farm
The Gardens at Heather Farm 6 acres (24,000 m²) are a relatively new set of gardens located in
Walnut Creek, California , USA, with sweeping view of Mount Diablo, and open to the public 7 days a week during daylight hours. Its gardens currently include:* Black Pine Garden (1989) - a small garden, including a
bonsai Japanese BlackPine , and bonsai Colorado BlueSpruce .
* Butterfly Garden (1996) - includes a hedge ofescallonia withmilkweed ,passion vine s, and Mexicansunflower s.
* Children's Garden (1990) -grape s and goldflamehoneysuckle . Much of the garden is planted each spring with edible produce.
* Cowden Rose Garden (1991) - Gazebo withTea rose andFloribunda rose s, among a variety ofrose displays.
* Diablo Ascent Garden (1996).
* Meadow Garden (1995) -rose hedge, background greenery, andconifer s, with capeplumbago andpittosporum shrubs, and a hedge of Japaneserugosa shrub roses.
* Mother's Garden (1996) - a bench set under Raywood Ash trees in anallée overlooking the Rose Garden, with creepingthyme ,rhaphiolepis , violets, variegated societygarlic , dwarfplumbago , sweetalyssum , a bearded iris from Bancroft Garden,statice ,St John's wort , andartemisia .
* Mural Garden (1990) - three Africansumac tree s,smoke tree ,crape myrtles , a red horse chestnut tree,artemisia ,verbena ,strawberry tree s,oleander ,rockrose ,berberis ,verbena ,gazania ,thyme ,coreopsis , andpenstemon .
* Native Plant Garden (1983).
* Ree Display Grove (1995) -daffodil s and twelve types of trees representing uncommon candidates for use in a home garden.
* Riparian Garden (1992) - original valleyoak trees, corkscrew leafwillow s,birch , purpleleafplum ,liquidambar , vinemaple ,hemerocallis ,buddleia , andochna .
* Rockery (1990) - an alpine garden, including miniature trees andconifer s as well as perennials to emulate high elevation plantings. This garden contains plants suitable to Zone 14 that still appear alpine.
* Sensory Garden - raised beds, water fountain and more than 75 fragrantherb s and plants interesting to touch.
* Stroll Garden (1997).
* Ward Garden (1989) - a lawn of tallfescue grass, with five ornamentalcherry trees.
* Water Conservation Garden (2004).
