George Ernest Studdy (
23 June ,1878 -25 July ,1948 ) was a Britishcommercial artist . He is best remembered for his creation ofBonzo the dog , afictional character in the early 1920s that first appeared in "The Sketch " Magazine.His Bonzo character was a chubby little white pup with sparse black spots, a stubby tail and big blue eyes. Bonzo became the inspiration for much commercial merchandise, such as cuddly and mechanical toys,
ashtray s,pincushion s, trinket boxes, car mascots,jigsaw puzzle s, books, calendars, candies, and a profusion ofpostcard s.Bonzo, wearing a set of
headphones , became associated with the "Crosley Pup ", an affordable mass-producedAM radio introduced byPowel Crosley Jr. in theUnited States in 1925.
