Robert Ball (
1802 -1857 ) was an Irishnaturalist . The Ball family lived inYoughal , County Cork. Robert had a brother — Bent and two sisters Anne, a well-known phytologist and Mary anentomologist . The family wasProtestant and "involved in trade."After a career in the civil service he became Director of theDublin University Museum.He was a Member of theRoyal Irish Academy and President of theGeological Society of Ireland Robert Ball was the father of
