José Ruiz Arenas was born in
Bogotá , and ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Aníbal Muñoz Duque onNovember 29 ,1969 .On
March 8 ,1996 , he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Bogotá and Titular Bishop of "Troyna" byPope John Paul II . He received his episcopal consecration on the followingApril 13 from Archbishop Pedro Rubiano Sàenz, with Archbishops Paolo Romeo and Tarcisio Bertone, SDB, serving as co-consecrators. Ruiz was later named Bishop ofVillavicencio onJuly 16 ,2002 , and was promoted to the rank ofArchbishop when his see was elevated to an archdiocese onJuly 3 ,2004 .On
May 31 ,2007 , he entered the service of theRoman Curia upon his appointment as Vice-President of thePontifical Commission for Latin America byPope Benedict XVI . As Vice-President, Ruiz serves as the second-highest official of thatdicastery , under Giovanni Cardinal Re.External links
