Sultan Raja Erij Zaman Khan is the present Chief of Gakhars. He is the great grandson of prominent Gakhar Chief Khan Bahadur Raja Jahandad Khan. He succeeded his father Sultan Raja Rukan Zaman [http://www.pap.gov.pk/legislators/previous/Legislators%20(1956-1958).htm (Member West Pakistan Legislative Assembly] ) in October 1963. Raja Erij Zaman Khan was crowned SULTAN by Field Marshall Ayub Khan in a grand ceremony also attended by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. The Sultan is the grandson(maternal) of Khan of Makhad - a prominent estate in Attock. He is the nephew of Raja Sikander Zaman - former Chief Minister of [http://www.nwfp.gov.pk/AIS-page.php?DistId=1&DeptId=1&LanId=1&pageName=cm003 North West Frontier Province.] Raja Erij remained Member Majlis-e-Shoora during General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq's military regime. He was also Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) from Khanpur (NWFP).
