Cardinal High School is a public high school (grades 9-12) in Middlefield, Ohio, Geauga County, United States and has roughly 435 students, of whom about 10% are special education (currently still referred to as "Learning Deficit") students. Students come from Middlefield village, Middlefield township, and the townships of Parkman and Huntsburg.
Although Cardinal High School is located in the center of the fourth largest Amish settlement in the world, currently (2005) no students in the school are Amish, as they are permitted to leave school after the 8th Grade to do farm work.
The school is part of the Cardinal Local School District.
Public School Difficulties
Failed levys and improper school funding throughout the state have posed severe problems to many public schools in Ohio, and Cardinal was no exception. Pay-to-participate fees were introduced in 2005 and bussing to and from the High School was cut. As of the 2006-2007 school year, both Parkman and Huntsburg elementary schools have been closed. Now you have to pay over $500 for one sport.
