Tito Steiner (born
March 1 ,1952 ) is a retireddecathlete of German descent, who representedArgentina in the 1970s and 1980s. He set the national record in 1981, collecting 8,279 points at a meet inBaton Rouge ,United States (1981-06-03 ). He improved himself with a score of 8,291 points, set onJune 23 ,1983 , which still is the national record. Steiner won the silver medal at the1979 Pan American Games inSan Juan, Puerto Rico .As student at
BYU he participated in the1975 Pan American Games , where he finished fourth; he also competed at the1976 Summer Olympics inMontreal , where he placed 12th. Six months later in 1977, Steiner won his firstNCAA title as a Cougar—and All-America honors—with 7,659 points.References
