Mandel Leadership Institute

The Mandel Leadership Institute [http://www.mli.org.il] is a training institution in Jerusalem that specializes in professional development programs for leaders in the social and educational sectors in Israel and Jewish communities around the world. It was established by the Mandel Foundation [http://mandelfoundation.org] in cooperation with the Israel's Ministry of Education [http://cms.education.gov.il/educationcms/units/owl/english/about/ministry+structure.htm] .

The Mandel Leadership Institute is directed by Dr. Eli Gottlieb.

Through in-service and fellowship programs, the Institute develops leaders who are self-aware, institution builders and visionaries. MLI works with professionals in the fields of education, the Israeli military, Israeli civil service, and the not-for profit sector in general. MLI’s world-class faculty is composed of leading academic figures from both Israel and abroad.

Mandel School for Educational Leadership (MSEL)

The [http://mandel.mli.org.il/MandelCMS/English/ProgramsEn/LeadershipSchool/ Mandel School for Educational Leadership] trains Israeli professionals to articulate and develop their individual visions for social and educational change. The two-year full-time fellowship draws inspiration from the great works of western and Jewish civilization, while placing vision at the center of professional development. Mandel Fellows learn to translate theories into practice and acquire the skills needed to implement creative solutions to the challenges of society. Fellows go on to establish and lead institutions fueled by their renewed perspectives. Of the 250 fellows who have participated in the program since its inception in 1992, many presently hold key roles in government ministries, local councils and social and educational organizations. Others have gone on to establish and lead schools and other initiatives in the field of education.

Mandel Jerusalem Fellows (MJF)

The Mandel Jerusalem Fellows in Jewish Education targets exceptional individuals with proven abilities in Jewish educational and communal leadership, and provides a formative learning and professional development through study with top scholars, policymakers and practitioners from around the world. Over the course of the one-year, residential fellowship, participants reflect on their professional practice, challenging both their personal goals and the current methods of contemporary Jewish education and communal engagement. Fellows exit the program with a fully developed and compelling vision for the next phase of their careers, along with a strategic plan of how to implement their ideas.

Senior Civil Service Programs

The mission of the Senior Civil Service Program is to train senior members of Israel's civil service to act as agents for change. The program’s participants hail from the fields of education, social welfare, labor, and immigrant absorption. Throughout the yearlong, in-service program, these senior professionals are taught how to reflect deeply about the values, goals and requisite knowledge of their work. Aiming to strengthen participants’ professional identity and judgment, the course of study focuses on philosophy, public policy, and the nature of Israeli society as a democratic and Jewish state. In this dynamic setting these professionals can consider their own roles as civil servants and their personal visions for their work. The curriculum gives participants the tools to refine their own professional identities, enabling them to promote a new, vision-driven management culture. Participants continue to generate productive dialogues within their institutions after the official end of the program.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Educational Leadership Development Program

The IDF Educational Leadership Development Program is a unique in-service program, designed to enhance the professional identity of IDF officers and commanders. The goal of the program is to embed the notion of the "educating commander" and to imbue military officers with social sensitivity, by increasing awareness of the relationship between army, education and Israeli society. The yearlong program includes lectures, group discussions, personal instruction, site visits, and meetings with prominent academic, governmental, and military figures. In the course of the program, fellows are required to prepare a project that impacts their actual work and military assignments.

The Visions of Jewish Education Project

The Visions of Jewish Education Project facilitates initiatives and provides resources that promote innovative Jewish education in Israel and abroad. Through seminars, collaborative initiatives, demonstration sites, an on-line resource center and publications, professionals in the field of Jewish education are challenged to consider new directions for their institutions. Based on several years of work in the educational arena, VJEP offers a unique “Philosophical-Educational Facilitation” workshop catered for educational leaders, institutions, and organizations.
