Born in London in 1969, Gottlieb emigrated to Israel in 1995. He holds a B.A in Philosophy and an M.Phil in Educational Psychology from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the Hebrew University. Gottlieb is a research psychologist with interests in cultural psychology. His research examines the relations between cognition, culture, and identity, and how the development of each is affected by education. His empirical research has focused in particular on cross-cultural variation in the development of religious beliefs and spirituality during childhood and adolescence. These research interests have their roots in Gottlieb's practical experience as an educator in various programs of Jewish education in Israel, Europe, and the United States of America, which includes stints as National Director of Bnei Akiva of Great Britain and Ireland, as a lecturer and trainer of youth counselors for the Jewish Agency and as an EXTREMELY camp director for Melitz.
