Pacific East Airlines airline codes|6P|PCE| was a short-lived airline that ceased operation in 1984.
History
Pacific East was formed in 1983 by former
Western Airlines employees to serve mainly theLos Angeles -Hawaii route using Douglas DC-8-61 aircraft. Shortly after operations started the route network was expanded to include theSan Francisco -Honolulu route and alsoChicago -Los Angeles . To increase capacityDouglas DC-10 s and more DC-8s were acquired. A new route fromNew York to Hawaii was opened and although the airline was carrying many passengers, it was losing money.Bad management decisions,
overbooking , failure to book passengers on other flights due to cancellations and overbooking led to a CAB investigation and unfavorable reviews with passengers led to the withdrawal of the operating license by authorities and ultimate bankruptcy in August 1984.
