Subramaniam s/o Soryaprasad (born 31 August, 1985 in Kuala Lumpur) is a Malaysian professional footballer currently playing for Perak FA in the Malaysian Super League. He primarily plays as a central defender, but has also operated at right back.

Career

He started his football career with Perak FA. In 2006, he was loaned out to Perak UPB, a team playing in the Malaysian Premier League, in order to gain match experience. He was recalled to Perak FA for their Malaysia Cup campaign, in which he excelled. This was somewhat ironic because Perak FA coach Steve Darby was originally unaware that Subramaniam was actually a Perak player.

Subramaniam's performances led to a call-up to the national team at different levels. He was part of the Malaysia Under-23 side that played in the Olympic qualifiers between February and June 2007. Upon his return from that assignment, Subramaniam was then called up for training with the senior team. As a result, he only made six appearances for Perak for the entire 2007 season. He has also captained the Under-23 side on several occasions. [(Malay) http://www.harimaumalaya.com/Kejohanan-Antarabangsa/Sukan-Sea/Subramaniam-pikul-tugas-ketua-pasukan.html]

He played in the disastrous 2007 Sea Games, starting beside Mohd Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak at the heart of Malaysian defence during the final group game against Singapore, and is known to have a terrible time trying to mark out Khairul Amri.

Currently, Subramaniam is being employed as a defensive midfielder. He make his senior debut against Indonesia on June 06, 2008. He also represent the Malaysia XI squad against Chelsea F.C. at Shah Alam Stadium on 29 July 2008. The Malaysia XI eventually lost 0-2.
