The Pike School

The Pike School, founded in 1926 by Cynthia E. Pike, is a private day school in Andover, Massachusetts.

General information

It enrolls approximately 420 students in grades pre-kindergarten through ninth. The school is divided into three sections: lower school (pre-kindergarten through second grade), middle school (third grade through fifth grade), and upper school (sixth grade through ninth grade). The average class size in upper school is 15 students. Pike is considered to be a "feeder school" for Phillips Academy, as many Pike graduates attend Phillips, as well as other nearby preparatory schools.

Courses

The following courses are mandatory in grades sixth-eighth:

*English
*Mathematics
*History
*Science
*Art/Drama/Music (each is taken for one term each year)

One of the following languages is also mandatory:

*Spanish
*French

Additionally, in the seventh grade and eighth grades, most students will also take Latin.In ninth grade, students drop one language, either Latin or their modern language (Spanish or French).

Pike offers a 9th grade program, that has varried in size from 4 to over 20 students.

The Pike School also offers floor hockey as intramural sports in between the fall and winter seasons.
