Its seat is the town of Susz, which lies approximately convert|21|km|mi|0 north-west of Iława and convert|77|km|mi|0|abbr=on west of the regional capital Olsztyn.

The gmina covers an area of convert|258.95|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 12,825 (out of which the population of Susz amounts to 5,610, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 7,215).
