Its seat is the village of Sadowie, which lies approximately convert|7|km|mi|0 north-west of Opatów and convert|54|km|mi|0|abbr=on east of the regional capital Kielce.

The gmina covers an area of convert|81.71|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 4,289.

The gmina contains part of the protected area called Jeleniowska Landscape Park.
