- ASReml
ASReml is a statistical software package for fitting linear
mixed model s usingrestricted maximum likelihood , a technique commonly used in plant andanimal breeding andquantitative genetics as well as other fields. It is notable for its ability to fit very large and complexdata set s efficiently, due to its use of the average information algorithm [Gilmour, A.R., Thompson, R. and Cullis, B.R. (1995). Average Information REML, an efficient algorithm for variance parameter estimation in linear mixed models. "Biometrics" 51, 1440-50] and sparse matrix methods. It was originally developed by Arthur Gilmour [ [http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/research/staff/arthur-gilmour Arthur Gilmour, NSW Department of Primary Industries] ] . The current version, ASReml 2, can be command driven or run in a windows environment. The software may also be used as an add-on to
