The 2008 Maryland Terrapins football team will be representing the school in its 56th season in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Terps likely face the toughest schedule in the ACC: Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Virginia, Boston College, NC State, Clemson, Wake Forest, [ [http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/md/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/future-schedules.pdf "ACC 2006 through 2015 Conference Football Schedule"] Atlantic Coast Conference 2005, accessed 6 January 2008] and (in lieu of West Virginia) California. [ [http://calbears.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/100702aaa.html "California Football Future Schedules"] University of California Golden Bears press release]

In December 2007, it was announced that former Terps wide receivers coach James Franklin would be returning from Kansas State to take over as offensive coordinator. This will make 2008 the first season since 2005 where Fridegen is not calling the plays for offense. In January 2008, shortly after Maryland's Emerald Bowl defeat by Oregon State, star linebacker Erin Henderson announced that he would be forgoing his final season with the Terrapins in order to enter the 2008 NFL Draft. [Marc Craig [http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/02/AR2008010202004.html "Terrapins LB Henderson Will Go Pro"] "The Washington Post" 2 January 2008, accessed 6 January 2008]

The 2008 season looks to feature a high powered passing game with James Franklin's West coast offense oriented strategy, strong passing quarterback Chris Turner again filling in for an injured and inconsistent Jordan Steffy, redshirt junior and NFL prospect Darrius Heyward-Bey, and several other quick and experienced receivers.
