HMS "Salisbury" was a 50-gun
fourth rate ship of the line of theRoyal Navy , built by Richard and James Herring at Baileys Hard (nearBucklers Hard ) on theBeaulieu River inHampshire ,England and launched on18 April 1698 .She was captured by the French ship "Adroit" on
10 April 1703 . She was subsequently recaptured on15 March 1708 and renamed HMS "Salisbury Prize", and later renamed HMS "Preston" on2 January 1716 .On
8 May 1739 "Preston" was ordered to be taken to pieces and rebuilt atPlymouth according to the 1733 proposals of the1719 Establishment , and was relaunched on18 September 1742 . She was then hulked atTrincomalee in September 1748 and broken up there in November 1749.Notes
