The airline was established in March 2002. It was formed out of the former CityBird which was bankrupted in October 2001, simultaneous with the bankruptcy of
Sabena .This was because Birdy got its funding by working withSabena at extremely high rates. Birdy started operations on26 April 2002 , whenSN Brussels Airlines also started codesharing with Birdy Airlines for its African destinations. Birdy Airlines operations ceased on27 October 2004 and its operations were fully integrated into SN Brussels Airlines. It was started by the former executives atCitybird ,Georges Gutelman andVictor Hasson . Birdy served 12 destinations in Africa from Brussels.Fleet
