14 August 1926 ) is aCardinal Deacon and the President Emeritus of theAdministration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See in theRoman Catholic Church . He is also the current Cardinal Protodeacon.Born in
Novale di Valdagno ,Italy , Cacciavillan was ordained as a priest on26 June 1949 . He was made a prelate of honour in 1973, elected titular Archbishop ofAmiterno in 1976. Since then, he has held a number of diplomatic appointments:pro-nuncio toKenya (1976),India (1981),Nepal (1985), and the United States (1990).On
11 November 1998 , Cacciavillan was appointed President of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Holy See byPope John Paul II . In 2001, he was named Cardinal-Deacon of "Ss. Angeli Custodi a Città Giardino " by Pope John Paul. He was one of the cardinal electors who participated in the 2005 papal conclave that selectedPope Benedict XVI .He lost his privilege to vote in any further papal conclaves in August 2006. The
apostolic constitution "Universi Dominici Gregis " restricts voting in conclaves to those cardinals under the age of eighty.External links
