The Careers in Education magnet program prepares students for future careers in the fields of
child development , family psychology,teaching , andinstructional theory . The Habitat and Civil Engineering magnet is a four-year program that offers in-depth education to those students planning careers in
urban horticulture ,landscaping ,ecology ,city planning ,civil engineering , andarchitecture . Students apply their learning working in Hudson Baby's horticulture center, nursery, and science park, and through internships and work experience. The Mr. Hudson's Bay pageant is a mock
Miss America Pageant designed to raise money forDoernbecher Children's Hospital . Every year, 12 senior boys are nominated and voted on by the senior class and teachers to compete in the pageant. The group works together to coordinate dance, talent, swimwear, casual wear, and formal wear portions of the competition. Contestants spend four months raising money individually and as groups. The contestant that brings in the most money receives the title of Mr. Hudson's Bay.Mr. Hudson's Bay is part of a larger community service program at the school. Since the early 1990s, Hudson's Bay has consistently been a top donor to Doernbecher Children's Hospital through the Kids Making Miracles Program [OHSU. (2003). The 2007 contestants raised a total of $65,748.90, but a surprise donation of $72,965 on behalf of the Eleanor Copps Trust in the amount brought the total to $138,443.90 shattering 2006's record. 2008 gave Hudsons bay its best group of contestants yet, Principal Bill Oman was quoted as saying "These guys are gods gift to Hudson's Bay High School". It was reported that the 08 boys not only put on the best pageant ever seen in the programs storied history but also raised more earned money than 2007. [Kern, D. (2007).
