Game Summary
The Rose Bowl was made to be a way to get people into small
Pasadena . The football game was the best team in the west versus another school from a different part of the country. They pited theMichigan Wolverines against theStanford Cardinals . Taking place on January 1, 1902, 8,000 people watched the game, three thousand more than there lived in Pasadena at the time. The game was a blow-out. Michigan had a seventeen to nothing halftime lead. After a scoreless third quarter Michigan scored thirty-two fourth quarter points before Stanford quit with eight minutes left in the fourth down forty-nine to nothing. FullbackNeil Snow was named Most Outstanding Player for scoring four touchdowns. Michigan had twenty-seven first downs to Stanfords five first downs. The teams punted a combined thirty-seven times, twenty-one by Stanford, sixteen by Michigan. Stanford also lost nine fumbles. Michigan outgained Stanford on the ground five hundred and twenty-seven yards to sixty-seven yards.coring Summary

Michigan's Season
Michigan had a first year coach in Fielding H. Yost. (Who came from Stanford) Michigan outscored it's opponents 550 to zero. Averaging fifty points a game it was under Yost's point-a -minute offense. The Wolverines started out by beating Albion fifty to zero. On October fifth they beat Case fifty-seven to zero. The next week they rolled over Indiana thirty-three to zero and the following week beat Northwestern twenty-nine to nothing in Ann Arbor. The next week against the
Buffalo Bulls they had their most prolific offensive show putting up one hundred and twenty-eight points. They then beat Carlisle twenty-two to zero and had their closest game at Ohio St. winning twenty-one to zero. They ended out beating Chicago twenty-two to zero, Beloit eighty-nine to zero, then Iowa fifty to zero. In the Rose Bowl the of course beat Stanford forty-nine to zero. Michigan was awarded the national championship. It was the first of what ended up to be twelve championships today.tanford's Season
The Cardinal ha a record of three wins, two loses, and two ties. Coached by CM Fickert, who was on a one year stint, replacing Fielding Yost and got replaced by CL Clemans the next year. They started out the season beating Olympic Club six to zero. They then followed tying two straight games. A zero-zero tie against Reliance Club, then a six-six tie against the Olympic Club. They then beat Reliance Club ten to nothing and the defeated Nevada twelve to nothing. Stanford then suffered their only regular season loss to California two to zero. In the Rose Bowl they of course lost to their old coach and Michigan forty-nine to zero.
