Its seat is the town of Rzepin, which lies approximately convert|19|km|mi|0 east of Słubice, convert|52|km|mi|0|abbr=on south-west of Gorzów Wielkopolski, and convert|65|km|mi|0|abbr=on north-west of Zielona Góra.

The gmina covers an area of convert|191.11|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 9,880 (out of which the population of Rzepin amounts to 6,499, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 3,381).
