It takes its name from Głusk – this was formerly a village, but in 1988 was incorporated into the city of Lublin, and is therefore no longer a part of the territory of Gmina Głusk, although it still serves as its administrative seat.

The gmina covers an area of convert|64|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 7,372.
