Its seat is the village of Gostycyn, which lies approximately convert|13|km|mi|0 south of Tuchola and convert|44|km|mi|0|abbr=on north of Bydgoszcz.

The gmina covers an area of convert|136.15|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 5,189.

The gmina contains part of the protected area called Tuchola Landscape Park.
