Its seat is the town of Gniewkowo, which lies approximately convert|16|km|mi|0 north-east of Inowrocław and convert|20|km|mi|0|abbr=on south-west of Toruń.

The gmina covers an area of convert|179.44|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 14,719 (out of which the population of Gniewkowo amounts to 7,254, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 7,465).
